Elo's Reflection
I chose to create a painting that symbolizes the courses and the sense of community at Odyssey. Since being here, it’s made me want to be more creative so I decided to make a piece of art. Each image represents the lessons we've learned throughout the course. The process took just over a day, and each symbol reflects a different teacher and their contributions. Since engaging with Art History, it gave me the urge to want to be more creative because like the teacher said, “Anything can be art.” So it led me to make this. The hearts in the painting symbolize the love and warmth that fills the classroom, where over time, you develop a sense of family with the people around you. Reflecting on my time at Odyssey, I would say it was truly rewarding, even though I had doubts about joining at first, especially when my life was going through a tough time. I didn’t realize how much I would look forward to this class each week, or how much it would mean to have teachers who genuinely care. It’s been very meaningful. I would say that my expectations were exceeded because it honestly helped with having more responsibility and filling that gap of always feeling the need to do something. Coming here for me wasn’t a mistake but a path leading me to figure out what I want to do in life. Looking back at my time in Odyssey, it is leading me to something greater in the future by helping me gain back the skills and motivation that I needed to find for myself. I will remember the faces of those who meant the most when class felt like the only break. I was just able to freely learn knowledge which has encouraged me to keep learning more.
