About the Guest: Teresa Barnes
Barnes was born in and grew up in the U.S., but spent the better part of 25 years after college living and working in southern Africa. She lived in Zimbabwe and South Africa, where she discovered the "gravitational pull" of African history. Barnes holds a joint appointment at UIUC in History and Gender/Women's Studies. Since August 2017, she has been the Director of the Center for African Studies at UIUC.
Her research interests include political, gender and institutional histories of South African universities; the political history of Zimbabwe; and gender, memoir and autobiography.
