Internship Spotlight: Lucy Roller
Becoming Part of the Humanities Community
We spoke with Lucy Roller, a sophomore studying English and creative writing, who served as the David F. Prindable intern for 2025–26. As Prindable intern, Lucy helped with communications and outreach for the institute. Lucy is a part of the Campus Honors Program, LAS James Scholar Program, and the English Honors Program, and is also the Co-President of the What You Will Theatre Company.
What made you interested in the David F. Prindable internship at HRI?
What drew me to this position initially was the idea of getting to work with an institution dedicated to furthering the humanities, something that is very important to me as a student studying English and creative writing.
For undergraduate students, what do you think are the benefits of being involved with and connected with HRI?
I truly cannot recommend attending HRI events enough. Every single one I have been to has been such a joy and I learn so much every single time, and I feel a wonderful sense of community with the larger humanities family on campus.
What has been your favorite project to work on?
My favorite project to work on was getting to cover HRI’s International Women’s Day Event, as getting to hear the stories of so many incredible women was an experience that I will never forget. [Read Lucy's International Women's Day piece.]
How might you apply what you've learned to something you do in the future?
This position has allowed me to strengthen my writing skills through drafting and revising several articles, a skill that I am confident will help me succeed not only academically, but professionally.
